Fellowship Players
The Valley Fellowship Players are a theatrical group sponsored by the Adult Fellowship Group of the Long Green Valley Church of the Brethren. It is our purpose to provide Christian Fellowship through the production of plays or other types of shows. We strive to do at least one major show each year. We aim to present wholesome family entertainment.
We share the proceeds of our shows minus expenses with outreach ministries which are selected before each production. In the past we have benefited Shepherd's Spring Outdoor Ministry Center, the Family Crisis Center of Baltimore County, and the Mid-Atlantic District Disaster Response effort.
"Oliver"
Every four years, youth from the Long Green Valley Church raise funds to travel to Colorado for a National Youth Conference. Two of our youth leaders who also love doing theater, David & Judy Ricci, dreamed of doing a musical that would involve many of our young people. Thus, "Oliver" became our Fall 2004 Valley Fellowship Players. During two weekends in October, our hall resounded with Charles Dickens' touching tale (put to music by Lionel Bart) of an orphan boy who runs away from the orphanage and tries to pick a pocket or two for Fagin, but gets caught. As Fagin tries to save him, all Oliver wants to do is go to his uncle, and live a good life.
We were blessed with an abundance of talent, both within and beyond our congregation. The cast of 40 formed a strong bond, thoroughly enjoying working together. The lyrics to the songs can also be found online, as well as extensive midi files with music soundtrack for each song. Read the original 19th century novel by Dickens, "Oliver Twist."
